HAI Lab co-convenes international discussion on AI governance and power

Director of the HAI Lab Professor Philipp Koralus, Senior Research Associate of the HAI Lab Mat Dryhurst, and Senior Inaugural Fellow of the Accelerator Fellowship Programme Ambassador Audrey Tang took part in an international discussion examining the social, political and technological trajectories of artificial intelligence during an event held in Venice on 7 May 2026.

The discussion, AI: Intentions, Protocols and Power, formed part of the opening programme for The Phantom Combatants by Natasha Tontey, presented by Amos Rex. The event was co-convened by Amos Rex, LAS Art Foundation and the HAI Lab at the Institute for Ethics in AI, University of Oxford.

Bringing together voices from research, policy, art and technology, the panel explored emerging questions surrounding AI systems, including agent economies, autonomous robotics, governance structures and the distribution of power in increasingly networked technological environments.

Dryhurst and Ambassador Tang were joined on the panel by Peter Danenberg and Linda Eggert, with the conversation moderated by Professor Koralus.

We welcome expressions of interest to join in developing the philosophy-to-code pipeline at HAI Lab full time, both to support existing projects and to propose new projects in the spirit of our mission.
